Why You Feel Stuck Even When You’re Doing “All the Right Things”

Beach with rocks

You’re doing everything you’re supposed to do.

You’ve read the books. You’ve spent time journaling. You’ve gone to talk therapy. You’re more aware than you’ve ever been.

You can even name your patterns as they’re happening.

And yet… something still isn’t shifting.

If that feels familiar, there’s nothing wrong with you.

You’re not doing it wrong. You’re just missing a piece that most people were never taught to look at.

Insight Isn’t the Same as Transformation

Understanding why you feel the way you do can be incredibly helpful.

It brings awareness. It creates language. It helps you make sense of your experiences.

But insight alone doesn’t always create change.

Because much of what keeps us stuck doesn’t live in the thinking mind.

It lives deeper, in the body, and in patterns that were formed long before you had awareness of them.

You can know something logically and still feel pulled back into the same emotional experience.

You May Still Be Operating From Old Patterns

Even when your life has changed, your internal responses don’t always update right away.

You might notice:

  • Reacting in ways that feel automatic

  • Getting pulled into the same emotional loops

  • Feeling overwhelmed by things that “shouldn’t” feel so big

  • Shutting down or checking out without meaning to

These responses aren’t random.

They’re patterns that were formed over time, often as a way to cope, adapt, or protect yourself.

And they don’t shift just because you understand them.

They shift when they’re worked with at the level where they were created.

Working at a Deeper Level

This is where approaches like NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Post Induction Therapy come in.

These methods are designed to go beyond surface-level awareness and work with the deeper patterns that keep showing up.

  • NARM focuses on how early relational experiences shape the way you see yourself, others, and the world, and helps shift those patterns in a way that feels integrated and lasting.

  • EMDR helps the brain reprocess experiences that may still feel unresolved, so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity.

  • Post Induction Therapy works with developmental and attachment-based patterns that often operate outside of conscious awareness.

This kind of work isn’t about forcing change.

It’s about creating the conditions for those patterns to naturally shift.

Signs You’re Stuck in the “Doing More” Cycle

Many people respond to feeling stuck by trying to do more.

More journaling. More podcasts. More self-awareness.

But if you’re noticing:

  • Repeating the same emotional patterns

  • Feeling exhausted from trying to “fix” yourself

  • Knowing what to do, but not being able to follow through

  • Feeling like you’re aware, but still stuck

…it may not be about doing more.

It may be about working differently.

You’re Not Broken

Feeling stuck can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re putting in the effort.

But this isn’t a sign that you’re incapable of change.

It’s often a sign that something deeper is ready to shift, just in a way that goes beyond what insight alone can reach.

With the right kind of support, those patterns can change.

Not by force, but by working with them at the level they were created.

And that’s where real, lasting transformation begins.

An Invitation

If this resonates with you, you are not alone.

Feeling stuck can be one of the most frustrating places to be, especially when you are putting in the effort and not seeing the shifts you expected. It can start to feel like you are missing something, or like change just is not happening in the way it should.

Often, it is not about trying harder. It is about working at a deeper level, where these patterns were originally formed.

Therapies like NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Post Induction Therapy can support meaningful change by working with the patterns that continue to show up, even when you understand them.

If you are curious about working together, I invite you to reach out. We can talk about what you have been experiencing and explore whether this approach feels like a supportive fit for you.
